Stewart Island - Rakiura

According to Maori mythology the island is the anchorstone used by Maui to secure his canoe while he caught the great fish - the North Island of New Zealand.

Oban at the shore of Halfmoon Bay is the only township on the island.
The biggest part of the island belongs to Rakiura National Park which is a bird watchers heaven.
