Arrowtown

The main story of Arrowtown began when 1862 gold was discovered in the Arrow River. The river is one of the world's richest sources of alluvial gold. The settlement grew into a community of over 7000. More than 50 buildings remain from the goldmining times.

You can wander around the Chinese Miner's village and learn from displays about the conditions they had here during that time.

In April there is a festival celebrating the pioneering days.
