James McKenzie was found here hiding 1000 stolen sheeps on the vast plains now known as Mackenzie Country.
Stone Church of the Good ShepherdThe church was built in the 1930's for the people of Mackenzie Country..
Close by the church is the statue of a sheepdog, a tribute to the hard working dogs all over the country.
8 hydroelectric power stations connected by a canal system produce an important part of New Zealand's electricity needs.

Aoraki - Mt Cook
Mt Cook is New Zealand's highest mountain (3754m).
There are plenty of walks and hikes around the region so it's probably the best, to stop at the DOC Information Centre in Mount Cook Village.

Hooker Valley

Hooker Valley TrackThe track passes a viewpoint at the Alpine Memorial and cross twice the Hooker River by swingbridges. It leads towards Mt Cook and the Hooker Glacier terminal lake.

Tasman Glacier
New Zealand's longest glacier measures 21 km in length.
40 min return - moderate
Start: Blue Lakes Shelter
Have a fantastic view over the glacier formed valley as well as the glacier lake.

Clay Cliffs
Watch for the signpost for the cliffs on the way to Omarama. The impressive cliffs are on private land but you can visit it for a small entrance fee.
Heavy showers in a normally try climate developing such formations if the sedimental ground isn't to compact.
