Christchurch

The largest city on the Southern Island and the second largest of New Zealand is known as "Garden City" because of it's many parks. Some tell about at least 740 parks and gardens in the city.

The main history of the town started in 1850. About 800 immigrants arrived with four ships from England. They planted 4 oak trees at Cathedral Square. You can find their story on displays below the trees.

Christchurch was New Zealand's first city by Royal Charter in 1856.
