Coast Discovery Highway to Brynderwyn
Most of the route follows the Twin coast Discovery Highway with the exception of the dead end road to South Head.
Muriwai Beach
A 9 km drive from SH16 leads towards this beach which is known for a gannet colony which can be viewed from a platform. The sand at the beach is black and the views beautiful as ever.
The road to South Head
The road to South Head turns left if you are travelling towards Hellensville. There's no other way to leave the peninsula so you have to come back the same road.
Parakai
Parakai has some hot springs and you can relax at the Palm Springs Thermal Pools for example.

Back on SH 16 you'll soon reach Hellensville. Situated on the banks of Kaipara River, the Information Centre is the place to look for the latest news about the region.
Hellensville Pioneer Museum
Relocated 2005, the museum shows much of the early days of the region.

Cleasbys Hill Lookout
About 10 km before Wellsford, this lookout provides a magnificent view of Kaipara Harbour with a coastline of more than 3000 kilometres.
Kaiwaka
The little rural town is especially pretty during the time of the cherry blossom. It's also known as the 'little town of lights' as during the night you will be welcomed by hundreds of lights.
